Spotlight Night showcases
are a valuable aspect of singing training;
and give you experience in a live performance
situation. This can be a big help in subsequent
auditions and performances, and perhaps
a way to try out material before doing a
full scale club act of your own. Also, Spotlight
Nights provide an excellent showcase for
agents, managers, or casting directors to
see you perform. Even students currently
in Broadway shows have enjoyed the chance
to get up in front of an audience as themselves.
These evenings are produced
several times a year. Generally they are
held on Fridays, with a show at 6pm for
younger singers, and 9pm for the adults.
Spotlight Nights are held
in a professional New York City cabaret,
with an expert technical director running
lights and sound. There are 6-8 singers
per show, each singing two or three songs,
depending on the show. A brief technical
rehearsal is held on the stage before the
show whenever possible. You may choose to
speak to the audience before or between
songs, or you might feel more comfortable
just singing. In any case, Spotlight Night
audiences are known to be very warm and
supportive. What you wear is optional. Some
singers feel better on the "formal
and glamorous" side, while others opt
for "casual and comfortable."If
you have any questions, or there's anything
I can do to help make the experience easier
for you, please don't hesitate to ask! I
know that you'll have a great time!
