Painted Smiles Records, produced by the late, great, infamous Ben Bagley, preserves rare songs from some very well-known composers, lyricists, and off-Broadway revues. Included in the Painted Smiles catalog are collections of Rodgers & Hart, Cole Porter, Alan Jay Lerner, Arthur Schwartz, DeSylva, Brown & Henderson, Ira Gershwin, Irving Berlin, and many others. Numerous songs on these compact discs are recorded for the very first time; history that would be lost forever was preserved by Mr. Bagley.
I'm proud that several dozen of these tracks feature my own arrangements of these wonderful forgotten songs. In the process of recording them, I've also had the pleasure of working with some fine vocalists, including Ann Hampton Callaway, K.T. Sullivan, Diane Carnevale, Kristi Lynes, Helen Gallagher, William Cantor, and Dody Goodman. Ben Bagley even got me to do a few vocals on some duets and trios with the late great Arthur Siegel, and Paula Laurence.
You can find the entire Painted Smiles series online, or at most large record stores. These recordings can also be a great source of rare material for certain club acts and auditions. |
