MUSICAL THEATRE IN ANCHORAGE, ALASKA

I recently spent several days in Anchorage, Alaska as a judge of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) Music Theatre Competition. I also gave several workshops and master classes. I love traveling and seeing new and interesting places, so I couldn’t resist the opportunity to visit our 49th state. The competition was in three categories: High School, College, and Avocation.

In addition to awarding the prize money, I was able to select the participants for the final Master Class which I taught the following day. Janet Carr-Campbell was my wonderful accompanist for all my classes, freeing me from accompanying the singers myself. Kate Egan put my entire visit together, chauffeured me around the town, and all-in-all did everything she could to make the trip easy and comfortable for me.

Dr. Rob Burgess and Lauren Green
Having the opportunity to teach in many locations throughout the United States, and having students from all over the world continually reminds me that there’s a lot of talent out there, regardless of whether singing is a vocation or avocation!

Just because they’ve never seen a Broadway show in New York doesn’t mean they couldn’t hold their own at a professional audition!

Again, a big thank you to everyone who made my trip possible, performed so well, and did so much to make me feel welcome. |
