JUNE 2009

Last summer, I was fortunate to work with new clients from over twenty states. And this summer looks like it will be equally busy, with singers coming to New York City preparing for upcoming auditions and performances.

I provide private coaching for singers at all levels of experience, which includes:

  • Finding and perfecting music for auditions specifically selected for a singer’s voice and style;
  • Preparing and transposing music in such a way that a strange pianist can play it at sight at auditions;
  • Helping singers prepare and perform cabaret acts;
  • Working on musical performance and acting technique, so essential to a successful performance;

Each 45-minute session is private, and focused on the specific needs of each performer. Piano accompaniments are digitally recorded on CDs for practice.

With Stage Manager Josh Parkin,
and Producer Alan Simon

I’ve been privileged to teach well-received Musical Theatre Workshops with renowned acting teacher Diane Hardin, who created Young Actors Space in Los Angeles after a successful acting career. Her list of students includes Leonardo Di Caprio, Jessica Biel, Robin Wright Penn, Hillary Swank, Toby McGuire, Maggie and Jake Gyllenhaal, Alison Mack [Smallville], Kellie Martin [Mystery Woman] and many others.

THE PRODUCERS at the Walnut Street Theatre

I had a great time seeing client Ben Lipitz starring in The Producers at the beautiful Walnut Street Theatre in Philadelphia. He has gotten rave reviews, and he does a Broadway-caliber Max Bialystock. The theatre’s description says it all: The Walnut's production of Mel Brooks' THE PRODUCERS has big laughs, beautiful showgirls, big Broadway dreams and buxom blonde Bavarians bedecked in bratwurst! It’s running thru July 12th, so if you’re in the area, go and enjoy… you won’t be sorry.

Another highlight of Philadelphia was seeing client Camille Mancuso in the National Tour of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.” After a delicious pre-show dinner with Camille and her mom Christina at Upstairs At Varalli, we went to the breathtaking Academy of Music, which is the oldest opera house in the United States that is still used for its original purpose. Camille and the entire cast did a terrific job, and the car went flying right on cue!

Terri Troiano is making another appearance at New York City’s fabulous Laurie Beechman Theatre, June 20th at 7:00. Her new show, “City Lights,” features a variety of songs, many written by her favorite songwriting team, Kander & Ebb. Information and Reservations: (212) 695-6909. (Of course, you’ll find me at the piano!)

Sing and Act for NYC Casting Directors

Last April’s workshop: Denise, Bob, and Sara Schatz of Jay Binder Casting

Denise Simon, well-known acting teacher and former agent, has put together valuable seminars culminating in auditions for some of New York City’s top Casting Directors. I work with the students in small groups perfecting their audition songs, while Denise distributes “sides” (scripts) for short scenes. We work simultaneously in separate rooms, and then put it all together for an informal audition with a guest Casting Director.

These sessions always sell out quickly, and we have only one planned for the summer, with New York City casting guru Matthew Maisto. There are still a few spots open, so call Denise at 212-501-2484 for registration or more information.

Monday, July 27th from 10-5 pm
with Matthew Maisto, NYC Casting Director

A Note From My Daughter, Arielle

For all of you who know my father, you realize that he didn't pass down the best running genes. Nevertheless, I am attempting to complete a half marathon this September to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (at least I have two good knees). I am running with a group called Team in Training, and each of us has committed to raise $2,800! Each donation helps accelerate finding a cure for leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma.
On my first practice with the team I was huffing and puffing next to someone who was having no trouble at all. He said it was his 5th marathon. He first joined the team when his grandmother was diagnosed with Leukemia and told she had 6 months to live. It has been 11 years. So he keeps running…

More than 823,000 Americans are battling these blood cancers, and each dollar helps support research and advancements that are already allowing people to live longer, fuller lives.

Please use the link in this email to donate online quickly and securely plus learn more about my progress.  You will receive a confirmation of your donation by email and I will be notified as soon as you make your donation. I really appreciate your support!
