I was recently interviewed for seven episodes of a new series on FUSE-TV called “10 Great Reasons,” a documentary that explores our hidden appreciation for a variety of pop music subgenres, trends and cultural moments. Each 30 minute episode takes an in-depth look at a given subject and assembles a compelling argument of ten great reasons why people love hair metal, pop princesses, Garth Brooks, rock anthems and more. I was questioned on many topics having to do with singing, sound, and vocal health. If my answers made any sense at all, you’ll see it on FUSE-TV.

The musical theatre performance classes I teach with Diane Hardin have been so well-received in New York, that we decided to bring them to Los Angeles. We taught kids and teens at the beautiful Madilyn Clark Studios in Burbank, and I taught some private students at the NoHo Arts Center. A highlight of my trip was joining Diane and her husband Jerry for a delicious dinner in their lovely home on the top of a Los Angeles mountain. Spectacular views, luscious food, and great company! Who could ask for more?
We have more classes
scheduled in New York City :
Wednesday, January 23rd
from 6-9 pm for kids (8-12)
Wednesday, January 30th
from 6-9 pm for teens (13 and up)
These workshops concentrate on musical theatre auditioning and performing. Each student needs to have one song prepared (memorized) with sheet music. Diane Hardin and I work on the musical, vocal, and dramatic aspects of the performance. Students also learn a great deal by watching each other. For the final 45 minutes, parents join us and the students perform what they've worked on. The cost for the three-hour class is $175, and the class size is limited to 12 students. There are only a few openings, so if you’re interested, email me at bob@bobmarks.com. |

It was a pleasure to accompany Carly Sonenclar (Cosette on Broadway in Les Misérables) at the beautiful Pierre Hotel in Manhattan. She sang for the 2007 Annual Gala of K.I.D.S. and Fashion Delivers. The audience loved Carly, and it was truly an affair to remember. A record $1.1 million was raised to benefit the two causes. Gov. Eliot Spitzer of NY gave a moving address on the social and educational needs of poor children in America, and three admired industry leaders were honored before 750 friends and associates.

I joined Tiffany Giardina in the recording studio as she sang vocals for her second CD release. Tiffany has already accomplished a lot in her young life. Her debut CD “We’ve Got Christmas” is already a holiday classic. Tiffany’s hit single “Sure Don’t Feel Like Christmas” is a heart-rending song about a child who misses her soldier father during the holidays. It was heard all around the world last season on Fox and Friends and it has made an impact on many of the servicemen and their families. She found singing inspiration early, and her talent is inspired by Carole King, Madonna, and Hillary Duff. Tiffany’s voice is already opening doors for her, as she was fortunate enough to perform with Patti LaBelle at the legendary artist’s 60th birthday bash. I’m proud to be associated with her! |

I’m going to end this newsletter by inviting to watch one of my favorite new YouTube videos. 14 year-old client Ariana Grande has put together an amazing a cappella version of "There's Hope" by India.Arie. In her home studio, she uses special digital looping effects to sing at least five simultaneous vocal lines. The result is amazing! |
